Your guide, Tom Tarrant

Tom has been observing, recording and photographing global birds and wildlife since the ‘seventies. In 1987 he moved to Brisbane, Australia and taught himself how to track-down most of the birdlife of Queensland by learning the calls, behaviours and characteristics of the species.

He has currently (late 2022) seen 670 bird species in Australia (540 in Qld) Since 2009 has assisted various academic-organizations in analyzing bioacoustic data-recordings, taking part in bird surveys and creating media to increase ‘natural-awareness’.

Please be aware that Tom is a mature-aged person, so most tours will not require huge-exertion, just a reasonable ‘level of fitness’.

Tailor-made wildlife excursions in the Greater Brisbane and South-East Queensland area.

Tours can follow a set itinerary based on a ‘wish-list’, ‘target-species’ or a visit to a national-park or reserve.  Clients can use their own ‘rental-car’ or if necessary travel in my AWD vehicle (maximum of 4 including driver) plus a fixed cost per kilometre. We have half-day tours that cater to cruise-goers and get you back to the ship on time. Correspondence on email please.

Testimonials

“I challenged Tom to find me a King Quail that I could photograph and a Barred cuckoo Shrike. King Quails are hard bird to photograph as they move around in rapid speeds and very illusive. Sure enough Tom produced these 2 beautiful birds for me to photograph. If you are in Brisbane and looking for a bird guide Tom Tarrant can show you around Brisbane based on your targeted species list.”

“I asked Tom to help me find (see) rufous scrub-bird. He warned me it would be a challenge, but he certainly delivered and we had great views of 2 individuals! Fantastic! Along the way, we found many other great birds at some great birding sites.

Tom is an impressive bird guide with a great knowledge of local sites. His ability to hear and recognise bird calls is amazing. On top of that, I found him to be very kind, flexible and thoughtful of the clients wishes.

Would recommend. Thanks Tom!”

“We had a fantastic morning with Tom in search of two targets. Lewin’s Rail and Square-tailed Kite.

He had no problems finding us both our birds in a very short time! We also saw a considerable number of other birds whilst we were searching, including multiple King Quail!

We had an excellent time, made much easier by the speed in which Tom picked up all the birds by call.

Would happily go birding with Tom again!”
